Sleep Apnea Dentist San Diego
Many of the underlying causes of sleep apnea can presently be tackled with by a sleep apnea dentist; there is even a medical branch known as dental sleep dentistry that has known an increase in the number of specialists over the last decade.
Medical practice has shown that sleep apnea may be caused by certain dental and mandibular problems that can be corrected by the surgical or non-surgical intervention of a dentist. Thus, there are all sorts of dental appliances used for the maintenance of a proper opening of the airways and only a sleep apnea dentist can recommend and design one for you.
In case the apnea patient suffers from a jaw deformity or mandibular deficiency that prevents the correct opening of the airways in a deep relaxation state, a sleep apnea dentist will have to create a special appliance to be worn at night.
Such a device would either pull the tongue forward or adjust the position of the jaw so that the air flow may pass unhindered towards the lungs. It should be said nevertheless, that the apnea dentist solutions usually work for the mild and moderate sleep breathing cessation problems, as the more severe cases require other forms of medical intervention.
After close medical investigations a sleep apnea dentist will tell you what type of oral device best matches your condition. The two most popular such devices include the splint and the mandibular advancement device.
The former holds the tongue in a position that allows the air to pass unhindered; this is mainly used for people who suffer from apnea caused by too large a tongue as compared to the diameter of the airways. The latter is a device that forces the jaw in a lower position, thus creating enough room for the air flow; the only problem with the mandibular device consists in the eventual jaw pain after its usage.
Regular visits to the sleep apnea dentist may be necessary particularly if you experience discomfort after the trial period is over. If you don't get used to an oral apnea device within a fortnight, contact the sleep apnea dentist and see how you can improve the situation. Do not purchase any type of apnea appliance since such items require a certain size and molding design that is unique for each individual. A general model will surely be very uncomfortable, even if you'd think it a real bargain.

Sleep Apnea Auto Accidents and Breathing
So you ask, "What do automobile accidents and breathing have to do with each other?" Well you might be surprised to know that the number one cause of automobile
accidents on North American roads each year is tired driving. Unfortunately, obstructive sleep apnea is a huge contributing factor. It deprives people of the rejuvenating sleep that their bodies require. Disruptive sleep fill with arousals, increasing heart rate and high blood pressure does not allow the solid sleep your body requires. Did you know that people suffering from this sleep disorder are seven to twelve times more likely to be involved in an auto accident because of their excessive sleepiness? Limited sleep slows your response time. In fact, sleeping only four hours a night results in reaction times that are equivalent to someone who has a blood alcohol level of .08%.
Sleep apnea is one of the most under-diagnosed life threatening medical disorders in our society today. Despite the lack of attention, tired driving and obstructive sleep apnea are statistically more dangerous than drunk driving. Once you know the statistics, driving down the highway can be a scary proposition.
This sleep disorder is also directly implicated as contributing to heart disease, cerebrovascular insult, diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and obesity. The list truly goes on and on. If you suffer from bruxism, or awake multiple time through the night, or have morning headaches or if your bed partner has witnessed you snoring and then gasping for air, the likelihood that you are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea is very, very high. It is not necessary for you to have any or all of the aforementioned to have sleep apnea. Realize that not everyone that has apnea is tired. Some people have symptoms with very mild apnea while others don't have symptoms with sever apnea. Bottom line, don't let how you feel make the determination. This is one area that "guilty until proven innocent'" is probably sound advice.
One very good screening tool that has been shown to be predictive of sleep disordered breathing is called the Adjusted Neck Circumference screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Here is the formula: ANC = NC + H (4) + S (3) + C/G (3). ANC is Adjusted Neck Circumference, H is Hypertention, S is Snoring, C/G is Choking/Gasping. The way it is used is that the neck circumference (measured in centimeters) is adjusted if you have hypertention (4 cm added), or a habitual snorer (3 cm added) or chocking or gasping most nights (3 cm added). A low clinical probability corresponds to an adjusted neck circumference of less than 43 cm, an intermediate probability (4 to 8 times as probable) to a neck circumference of 43 to 48 cm, and a high probability (20 times as probable) for a neck circumference of more than 48 cm.
The gold standard for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea is CPAP therapy; however oral appliances can be equally affective, particularly in mild and moderate sleep apnea. If you suspect you have sleep apnea, take it seriously and talk with your physician or a dentist that is trained in the treatment of sleep apnea. It could be a conversation that saves your life.

What is involved in getting a crown? Chula Vista, San Diego
Porcelain Caps or Crowns
Caps or Crowns come in several types. Porcelain is the most popular because it is most attractive and looks natural, unlike metal crowns. They are very strong and will last a long time. You can have a natural looking, beautiful smile with long-lasting porcelain crowns. They match your teeth in color, shape and size.
What is involved in getting a crown?
It typically takes two appointments to have a crown done. During your first appointment, several extremely accurate molds, or impressions, will be made which will be used in creating your custom crown. A mold will also be utilized in the creation of a temporary crown. This will remain on the tooth for a couple of weeks while the dental laboratory makes the new crown.
Porcelain Fixed Bridges
A porcelain fixed bridge is permanent and is a great way to replace your missing teeth.
There are a few different kinds of bridges. Confer with your dentist to determine your very best options. The most popular option is the "traditional bridge" which is normally made of porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain fixed bridges look like natural teeth, so they are very popular. With this type of bridge, two crowns will cover the abutment or anchoring teeth. These will be attached to the pontics or artificial teeth. This fills the gap that is made when teeth are missing.
A dental bridge is quite strong and will last a long time. Of course, eventually it may need to be replaced or repaired due to normal wear and tear.
What is the process for getting a fixed bridge?
At least two visits are necessary when obtaining a bridge. While the area is numb, a portion of enamel is removed from the two anchoring teeth in preparation for the crown. The next step is the sending of a very accurate mold or impression of your teeth to a dental lab. There, your new bridge will be created. You may get a temporary bridge to use until your next appointment.
During the second visit, your permanent bridge will be checked, adjusted and cemented, ensuring a correct fit. Sometimes the dentist may choose to cement the bridge on a temporary basis so that the teeth and tissue have time to adjust to the new bridge. Permanent cementing of the bridge will take place at a later time.
After treatment, care instructions will be provided to you. You can extend the life of your new permanent bridge by brushing and flossing properly and visiting your dentist regularly.

Full Dentures and Partial Dentures Chula Vista San Diego
Full Dentures and Partial Dentures
Dentures are appliances that can be removed and put in place of lost teeth and the tissue that is around it. They are crafted to look quite similar to your natural teeth and may even improve your smile.
Two types of dentures are available -- complete dentures and partial dentures. When no teeth remain, complete dentures are utilized, but partial dentures are used if some natural teeth are present. When you have a partial denture, it will fill in the blank left by your missing teeth, and it will protect your remaining teeth by preventing them from shifting.
There are two kinds of dentures: 1. Conventional. 2. Immediate. Conventional dentures are created after the teeth have been pulled and the gums have healed. It may take four to six weeks to receive your conventional dentures. The patient will have no teeth during this period.
On the other hand, as soon as your teeth are removed, you will have "immediate dentures". These are dentures that were made up for you in advance so that you will not have to go toothless until your permanent dentures are made. It will be necessary to make adjustments once the tissues have healed and shrunk.
Dentures are very strong objects that will be around many years, but might have to be made over again, fixed, or altered because of normal use.
Reasons for dentures:
• Complete Denture - If you lose all of the teeth in your arch.
• Partial Denture - Within an arch there is the loss of several teeth.
• Improving smile and tissues of the face.
• Improvement in the processes of chewing, speaking and digestion.
What happens when you get dentures?
A number of appointments will be necessary over a period of several weeks in order to obtain dentures. Extremely accurate impressions, or molds, and measurements are take which are utilized in the creation of your custom denture. To get the right shape, color and fit, a few "try-in" appointments may be required. At your last appointment, the completed denture will be meticulously placed and adjusted to make sure that the fit is natural and comfortable.
Common side effects include greater flow of saliva, a measure of soreness, and some difficulty with chewing and speaking. These symptoms are usually temporary. When your tissues and muscles are used to the new dentures, these side effects will subside.

Dental Sealants Chula Vista San Diego
Dental Sealants
A dental sealant is a very thin coating of plastic. It is applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars and premolars. It is also used to fill pits, fissures, and grooves in the teeth. These deep grooves is where the great majority of dental decay starts. When teeth have these conditions, they are difficult to clean and may experience decay. A sealant seals deep grooves, providing protection and creating a surface that is smooth and easy to clean.
Be sure your dentist checks your sealants for chipping and wear at each visit. With proper care, your sealant will last years.
Why get a sealant?
• Teenagers and children - It is a good idea during the cavity prone years(6-16). This is as soon as the first permanent molars appear.
• Adults - Teeth with no signs of decay but that have deep grooves or depressions.
• Baby teeth - Sometimes performed if teeth are deeply grooved or have depressions and the child is prone to getting cavities.
What is involved in the application of sealants?
Your dental hygienist or your dentist can apply sealants quickly and easily. It just takes about two minutes per tooth.
Once the teeth that need to be sealed are completely clean, they will be surrounded with cotton to keep them dry. The surface of the enamel receives an application of a special material that will help the sealant bond to the teeth. Next the teeth are rinsed and dried. The deep grooves and depressions in the surface of the enamel are covered with sealant material. Considering the kind of sealant that is applied, the substance will either get hard by itself or by using a special curing light.
The life of the new sealants will be assisted by a balanced diet, proper care at home, and regular visits to the dentist.

Composite fillings Chula Vista, San Diego
A composite filling
A filling that is the same color as the tooth is used to fix the tooth that is rotted, cracked, fractured or has another defect. A composite filling is used to repair or replace decayed areas of the tooth.
There are a number of ways to fill a tooth, and there are disadvantages and advantages inherent in each method. Discuss your best tooth restoration options with your dentist. Currently, the most widely used fillings are composite or silver amalgam. Composite fillings are suitable for use in teeth that are most visible, since these fillings are tooth colored and can be matched to the color of existing teeth.
No dental restoration is permanent. Composite fillings will eventually wear out and need replacement. Due to their high level of durability, they will last for quite some time, allowing you to keep your beautiful smile for years.
What is entailed in placing a composite filling?
Normally only a single appointment is required for composite fillings to be placed. Your dentist will remove any decay while the area is numb. Prior to inserting the new filling, the space will be scrupulously cleaned and prepared. If the decayed area was close to the tooth's nerve, a special medication will be inserted as an added layer of protection. Next the composite filling will be meticulously placed, shaped and polished; when finished, you tooth will have been restored to its original shape and function. After your tooth gets used to your filling, your sensitivity to heat and cold should diminish.
At the end of your treatment, you will receive care instructions. Your new fillings will last longer if you practice good oral hygiene, eat nutritious foods and have regular dental check ups.

Periodontal Treatment CHula Vista, San Diego
Periodontal Treatment
Depending upon how severe your periodontal disease is, treatment will vary. After performing an evaluation for periodontal disease, your dentist and hygienist will make a recommendation regarding the correct treatment.
When the space or pocket (sulcus) between gums and tooth becomes filled with tartar, bacteria and plaque, it causes irritation and periodontal disease progresses. Gum damage can occur and bone supporting the teeth can be undermined if these irritants are allowed to remain in the pocket space.
When gingivitis is discovered in its early stages, before damage has occurred, one or two regular cleanings will be suggested. Instructions will also be provided regarding how to improve your daily oral hygiene habits, and you will be encouraged to have regular dental cleanings.
If the disease is more advanced, scaling and planing will be recommended. This is a special periodontal cleaning method. Normally one quadrant of the mouth is numbed and treated at a time. Scaling is the process used to remove toxins, plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Planing is the process used to smooth rough spots on the root surface. This procedure promotes healing of gum tissue and shrinkage of pockets. To help control infection and promote healing, your provider may suggest medications, special medicated mouth rinses and an electric toothbrush.
If, after scaling and root planing, the pockets do not heal, the pocket depths may need to be surgically reduced; this will result in making it an easier matter to clean the teeth. It is possible that your dentist will tell you to make an appointment with a Periodontist, a dental professional who specializes in caring for gums and supporting bone.

FDA Single Tooth Anesthesia
STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia)
FDA Cleared
In order to ensure there is no pain from the injections or the work your dentist is doing, the STA system releases a specific amount of anesthesia throughout your dental procedure. Just the location where work is to be done is numbed.
The needle used with STA doesn't look anything like a syringe! This needle is very small compared to an average dental needle (this needle has the appearance of a wand or a pen with a small needle attached), and you won't feel the associated numbness and typically embarrassing spit dripping down that you commonly experience from a dentist appointment.
How this impacts you: Since your whole face will not be numb after your dental visit, you won't have to wait long before you can speak or drink something without drooling, nor will you have a fat lip and lopsided face!
The experiences of dental injections have been terrible for many people: The 'bee sting' torture is not a part of the STA system, which uses its computer to automate and regulate the delivery of anesthesia! The doses of anesthesia are delivered under your threshold of pain – no awful dental syringe is used at all.
First a little spray numbs the gum, which is followed by a computer-controlled, slow release of small doses of anesthesia. You will feel absolutely nothing.

Porcelain Veneers,
Your smile says a lot about you. But if you're embarrassed or uncomfortable about how your teeth look, your smile could be holding you back. A cosmetic dentist specializes in improving your smile using a variety of methods to best suit your needs. Three popular methods include porcelain veneers, straightening and whitening.
Porcelain Veneers To Improve Your Smile
Porcelain veneers are a viable option for fixing teeth with worn enamel or showing normal wear and tear. They are also a good solution for people who have uneven teeth or who are genetically disposed to gaps in between their teeth. Your dentist will be able to help you decide if porcelain veneers are right for you.
Veneers have come a long way in recent years. Newer porcelain veneers are wafer-thin and mimic the translucent effect of the natural tooth enamel. They are also minimally invasive and require little anesthesia. To place the porcelain veneers on your teeth, a small amount of the natural tooth enamel must be removed. Veneers are a permanent solution and when applied by a professional cosmetic dentist can last 30 years or longer.
Your Teeth, Only Straighter
If you are happy with the appearance of your teeth, but embarrassed because they are crooked or gapped, you may opt to have them straightened. Traditional methods of straightening and aligning teeth include metal braces. While this is still a practical solution for many people, your dentist may also recommend Invisalign aligners.
Invisalign are invisible aligners that are removable for cleaning and eating. Your teeth are moved slowly in stages using different retainers that are custom made to achieve your desired results. Because Invisalign retainers can be removed, your teeth are whiter, cleaner and less damaged when the process is complete.
A Brighter, Whiter Smile
Whitening your teeth can create a radiant smile that instantly boosts your self confidence. A good candidate is someone who has stained teeth due to smoking or drinking coffee. There are several methods for teeth whitening, and your dentist can help you decide which is right for you.
If you prefer to whiten at your leisure, your dentist can create custom fitted trays by taking an impression of your teeth. Your dentist will give you a bleaching agent that is poured into the trays and allowed to sit on the teeth for 15-20 minutes at a time.
Another option your cosmetic dentist may recommend is laser teeth whitening. This process is done in the dentist's office and takes about an hour. The teeth are first cleaned and a peroxide gel is applied. The teeth are then treated with a laser, resulting in teeth up to 10 shades whiter.
Whether you have worn, uneven, gapped or discolored teeth, your cosmetic dentist can create a custom treatment plan that will give you something to smile about.

Cosmetic Dentist Offers Invisalign Invisible Braces San Diego
On my first visit into the dentist to be fitted for Invisalign, I was surprised at how quick and easy the process was. They took some molds of my teeth and I was only there for about 20 minutes for the molds. Invisalign worked their magic and came up with a 10 tray treatment plan for me.
I returned to the dentist office to receive my first set of trays. The trays look like clear plastic retainers. The dentist put 6 little white dots on the exterior of my teeth. Four on top, one each on the eye tooth and the one right behind that and two on bottom just below the ones he put on top. They feel like smooth little balls on your teeth when you're not wearing the braces. These little white dots work as anchors to hold the trays in place as they start to manipulate the teeth. I wore the first set of trays for 3 weeks, then each set after that for 2 weeks. I'm in tray set #7 and my teeth are pretty much straight.
Invisalign must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day, so all the time. I take mine out to eat and of course to brush my teeth but you can drink with them on. There was no pain involved at all like I've hear with people that have conventional braces. When you first snap in a new set of trays, they are tight and give your teeth a big bear hug but they continue to loosen as you get closer to moving to your next set of trays.

Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist San Diego
Smile and the world smiles with you - or so the saying goes. Using a cosmetic dentist is the only way some people can ever find or recover that smile that makes them willing to face the world. Princeton has around a dozen listed dentists in this area.
Dentistry with beauty in mind is not a recognized specialty but is considered by many to be more of an art. This means that dental school offers some training but no specific degree. Dentists may take a few years to attend a school that offers more extensive training in these dental procedures. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is one of the accredited schools that offer additional education in this field.
Finding the right dentist may take some time and effort. Any licensed dentist can practice cosmetic dentistry but may not produce the quality product that you desire for your smile. There will only be limited cases where insurance will cover beauty dentistry so your time invested in research will be protecting your wallet.
Use the following tips to find the best dentist to improve your smile:
• Ask for before and after pictures. You want to see smiles that are bright and smooth and that appear natural.
• Ask for referrals. Talk to patients that have already had cosmetic dental work from the dentist.
• Do an internet search to see if there are any positive (or negative) comments about a dentist.
• Check with accredited schools for referrals in the Princeton area.
• Ask your general dentist if he or she recommends someone who specializes in cosmetic dentistry.
Great dentistry comes from experience, training and a passion for creating that perfect smile. It is important to find someone that specializes in cosmetic dentistry to help you find your smile. General dentists are important in your oral care but your general dentist may not be the best candidate for your cosmetic dentistry procedures.

San Diego Cosmetic Dentist
My dentist has a new toy, it numbs just the tooth being worked on.
I went to the dentist last week; I was dreading it, as I hate the numb face for hours after that's always the result of having dental work done but Dr Aldo surprised me with a new toy he has that only numbs the tooth just a single tooth. It's co cool.
It's called a STA or Single Tooth Anesthesia.
This new anesthesia works instantly, and weares off quickly and is fantastic.
I had friends turn up as soon as I got home from the dentist to invite me out to lunch, I could go out within to lunch within minutes of getting out of the dentist office, I could eat, have a glass of wine and talk to my friends without being bothered by a numb face for hours afterward like the old days.

Cosmetic Dentist Techniques Looking at Veneers and Bonding Treatments
A cosmetic dentist uses bonding or veneers to treat malformed, stained or chipped teeth. These are an adequate substitution for crowns in many cases because they are easier and even a painless way to repair teeth. To choose between the treatments, it is best to have a discussion with your dental professional. Here are some things to consider.
Veneers
A veneer is a thin casing made of a porcelain or acrylic material that sits over your natural tooth. This treatment requires two separate appointments. During the first visit, the cosmetic dentist will freeze your mouth and wear down the enamel on the affected tooth before making an impression of the area. This mold is then sent to the lab that will create your veneer. During your second visit, you will have the enamel's surface roughened with a special chemical and glue called 'composite resin cement.' This cement is applied just before the veneer is slipped into place.
Pros And Cons Of Veneers
Besides a small amount of pain involved, veneers carry a wide range of costs that is often higher than bonding. This is not without a benefit as veneers last up to 20 years before needing replacement. Wine, smoking, and certain foods can permanently stain these dental treatment options and decay is possible underneath the veneer. On the bright side, veneers are one of the most natural looking solutions for damaged teeth.
Bonding
Bonding is a composite resin that is 'painted' on damaged teeth. Resembling a paste similar to white plastic, the substance can be customized to match the color of the rest of your teeth to give you a flawless fix. For restructuring teeth, a cosmetic dentist can layer the resin and reshape it to help fill in gaps and fix other misshaped teeth.
A chemical will be coated on your tooth's enamel to roughen the surface and ensure the resin can adhere to your tooth properly. The cosmetic dentist will prepare and color the resin before 'painting' it on your tooth and using a special light aimed at your tooth to cure the resin. This process is continued until there is enough bonding on your tooth. The dental professional can shape and shine the tooth to make it appear natural.
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bonding
An oral care expert often recommends this procedure because it requires no anesthetic and is completed quickly. In fact, numerous teeth can be treated at the same time in a single appointment with no recovery period. It is also a highly recommended treatment for children because it is inexpensive and can be redone as the teeth grow and change.
It may be considerably less expensive than traditional veneers or crowns in the short run, but the overall cost can be more. The resin itself only lasts between five and ten years. Unfortunately, the plastic-like coating stains easier and the teeth themselves can experience decay underneath the coating.
These are common treatments performed by a cosmetic dentist in San Jose and throughout the country. The best choice depends on a number of different factors that include the specific tooth in need of treatment, cost, and time. By discussing it with your dental professional, you will be able to find the right treatment for you.

Asking Your Cosmetic Dentist About Porcelain Veneers San Diego
Thinking about the different ways to make your smile brighter and more beautiful? If so, then consider a visit to your local cosmetic dentist and ask about the procedure of getting porcelain veneers.
How exactly can porcelain veneer improve your teeth in order to give you a whiter and brighter smile? This is done by first getting a veneer made of porcelain and shaping that veneer into a thin layer than looks and feels like the front of a molar teeth. This thin veneer is then attached to your teeth. This simple procedure has the ability to make crooked teeth look straight, align misshapen teeth, or even just fill a missing gap between missing teeth.
This procedure is very simple! All you will have to do is to go to your local cosmetic dentist and ask for a consultation. He or she will guide you through the different options available -- listen carefully, and make sure you ask plenty of questions as to not miss out on any details. Decide on the color of porcelain veneer you would like to have; and of course, the dentist will want to make sure it matches your current teeth as closely as possible as to make the porcelain veneer look as natural condition.
You could also use porcelain veneer to make your teeth appear whiter, especially if you feel that your teeth are in good condition but could use some whitening procedures as well. This would most likely involve additional teeth whitening sessions, which your local cosmetic dentist would be an expert at.
Getting this procedure done is definitely worth the investment so you could get a nice set of shiny white teeth which would surely improve your smile, your appearance to others, give you a better first impression with the opposite sex, and even increase your confidence. Consider getting the porcelain veneer procedure done in order to give your teeth a uniform balance as well as a beautiful smile!

Don't Ignore Bad Breath, San Diego
Does this sound familiar to you? My dentist and hygienist mentioned that I had irritated gums as they cleaned my teeth. This is a symptom of gingivitis. Gingivitis can be a stepping stone to major problems in the mouth and gum line. It can lead to periodontal disease, which is a much more serious problem with the potential for actual bone loss.
Halitosis (bad breath) could be related to a gingivitis infection as both are caused by bacteria. Red, swollen and/or bleeding gums characterize gingivitis. These symptoms are most evident upon flossing and sometimes from brushing.
Bacteria cause gingivitis. And bacteria are considered to be responsible for bad breath.
Sometimes, I could even see the bloodstains that the hygienist quietly wiped away with a towel. It was embarrassing enough to know that I wasn't controlling my gingivitis problem, but to know that she was actually trying not to make a big deal out of it was troubling.
I knew my dentist was concerned because she gave me a bottle of alcohol based mouthwash to try and mentioned that she wanted to see how I looked next time. I don't like using it; there is too much alcohol and the taste is not very pleasant. Alcohol may also dry the mucous membranes in the mouth.
The Problem
Bacteria can stick to your teeth and secrete acid onto them contributing to cavity formation. They can also infect the gums, particularly around the gum line, causing gingivitis. This can manifest initially as bleeding and irritated gums.
Having a lot of uncontrolled bacteria multiplying in the mouth may also lead to bad breath, but there is a natural and normal amount of bacteria in the mouth, and you will never completely get rid of them all, nor would you want to.
Theory has it that it is actually the anaerobic bacteria that live in the tongue and throat that produce sulfur that in turn produce hard to get rid of bad breath. These anaerobes create VSCs or volatile sulfur compounds. One type is the familiar rotten egg smell. There are other odors coming from VSCs as well. These sulfur-producing bacteria may feed on certain foods, like coffee, alcohol and meats.
A gingivitis problem can offer a way for bacteria to easily enter your blood stream and that can lead to additional problems. Systemic infections could come from this. Gingivitis can be something that makes your gums bleed easily in a mild case or it can be the root of deep gum recession, leading to bone loss in the worse case scenarios. (Periodontal disease)
Loss of gum line can be discouraging. A friend of mind once described the process as, "getting long in the tooth". Sometimes, people experience this problem by brushing too hard. TIP: Using a soft bristled toothbrush with the type of motion that your hygienist recommends may help prevent eroded gum lines.
Treatment and Prevention
Had you ever heard of under-the-gum cleanings? This could be part of the protocol your dentist might invoke, should you develop periodontal disease. If you know people that have had an under-the-gum cleaning; they may tell you that it is not very pleasant.
Your dentist can deal with this problem in a variety of ways. However, prevention probably is the best option. Include good flossing and brushing habits - see your dentist for details. And you could add a non-alcohol based mouthwash alternative to your regimen.
I'm currently using a special toothbrush that uses vibration to clean the teeth. This device does a better job than a regular toothbrush in keeping my teeth clean. It does take a little while to get used to because of the vibration. It makes many, many vibrations per second. This helps to give it such wonderful cleaning abilities.
Don't feel sad if you have excellent oral health habits but you still have bad breath. This is common and many people experience this same situation. Oral health products that don't contain sodium lauryl sulfates or artificial flavors that can still kill the bacteria that cause bad breath without using harsh alcohol or tough chemicals may be helpful.

Benefits of Implant Tech With No Bone Loss
Without the proper treatment by a dental implant specialist and continued maintenance, the success rates of dental implants are greatly reduced. Complications from dental implants can include inflammation, swelling, tissue loss, bone loss, or even nerve damage to the gums and jaw bone.
Fortunately, there is an implant system, which along with the help of an experienced practitioner, ensures long-term form and aesthetic function. Periodontists have spent the past seven years spreading the word about the implant system, in hopes that the world's dentists and practitioners will adopt the best implant treatment possible.
The design is so unique and successful that all of the world's leading implant manufacturers have cloned this design concept over the last several years. The design preserves bone in the jaw. This is essential when having esthetic tooth replacement in the front of the mouth. If the bone even recedes 2 mm under the gum over time, the overlying gum tissue will recede causing an aesthetic failure.
Since the inception of implantology 35 years ago, dentists have been treating implant patients under the rule that 2 mm of bone resorption within the first year of the procedure is permissible. However, research has shown that over time even 2 mm of bone loss has repercussions, in that the gum tissue loses stability and becomes susceptible to inflammation.
It has virtually no micromovement, is bacteria proofed, prevents bone resorption, and ensures stable and healthy soft tissue in the jaw.
The purpose was to demonstrate whether or not the system meets dentists' and clients' standards of success and is suitable for single tooth replacements, bridge abutments, and retention.
Evaluating nearly 5,500 implants, the study tested for clinical stability, inflammation of hard and soft tissue, bone loss, mucosa loss, and patient satisfaction. The results found a 98.7% success for restoration and 97.9% success for end-implant restoration; a 97.3% success rate where there was a large gap involved; and a 95.8% success rate when involving reduced dentition.
Periodontists' patients can live a life without worrying about their implants. Their patients don't have to worry about infection or long-term bone loss, and it looks so natural that they have little self-consciousness about their implants. They can only hope every dentist adopts this system as the periodontists at their practice have.

Dental Implants Information
Dental implants are ideal to replace broken or damaged teeth. Be advised that these dental implants can be a costly procedure as well as lengthy procedure.
Typically, dental implants have a starting cost around $1000 dollars for each tooth. If you have dentures, bridges, broken or damaged teeth dental implants could be a great investment for your smile. This procedure has very low failure rates. If a failure was to occur, chances are that there was an undetected bacterial infection during the install of the implant.
Timeframes needed to complete the dental implant procedure have a few contributing factors. One such factor is state of the jawbone. If the doctor needs more jawbone to work with, bone grafting may be required. This process must be completed and healed before the dental implant can be installed.
Osseointegration is a process where a titanium post is screwed into the jawbone. This must be left for 3-6 months so that the bone can fuse around it. A plate style implant may be used between the gum and the jawbone if the bone integrity is not ideal.
Once the healing has completed, the doctor will make a cast of the mouth. Then a ceramic tooth will be made to match the existing shape and color of the teeth.
It is always advisable to consult your dentist regarding dental implants. In some cases, they may be able to offer you a finance plan to have the procedure done. Be sure to ask any and all questions about dental implants with your.

Pediatric Dentist San Diego
To ensure your child's smile lasts a lifetime, it's important to instill good dental hygiene habits in them from a very young age. But it's not always easy to get children to adopt a new habit; especially a habit they may consider a chore. The following article offers three suggestions for teaching children proper dental hygiene habits.
Regular Visits To A Pediatric Dentist
A pediatric dentist can be an invaluable asset when it comes to teaching your child proper dental hygiene habits. A pediatric dentist is required to take an additional two years of training after receiving their Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. During this time, they learn about the special oral and dental needs of children from infancy through adolescence.
Because a pediatric dentist understands how a child's dental needs differ from that of an adult's, they are better equipped to teach children healthy habits that will last a lifetime. They can explain the importance of good dental hygiene to children in a non-confrontational manner that they can understand, and show them how brushing and flossing can be made fun.
Regular trips to a pediatric dentist will also help your child feel more at ease about going to the dentist, and will encourage continued good habits so they receive positive check-ups. Most dentists recommend children start regular appointments around their first birthday, and begin brushing around age 2 or 3.
Make It Fun
When you've got to do it twice a day... every day... brushing can sometimes seem like a chore. And flossing certainly isn't a walk in the park either; especially for young children. To establish good habits and make these tasks seem less onerous, make it fun!
Manufacturers have quickly caught on to the fact that children don't like to brush their teeth. A quick trip down the oral health isle at the store presents an array of options to make brushing more fun. Colored, glittery toothpaste, character toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes, and rinses that leave colors behind where teeth weren't thoroughly clean can all make brushing seem like more of a game than a chore.
Other ways to liven up your child's toothbrush time are to put on their favorite song and brush to the music, use brushing as a competition between siblings (who has the cleaner teeth?), and reward your child for good habits (like brushing without being reminded and good check-ups at the dentist).
Set An Example
Monkey see, monkey do! A child who sees their parents exhibiting proper dental hygiene habits is more likely to follow suit. Even on those days when it truly does feel like a chore, remind yourself that your kids are watching you.
To really recognize the benefits here, rearrange your routine so that you can brush your teeth while your child brushes theirs. Brushing and flossing together has a three-fold advantage: you can teach your child healthy habits, make it fun for each other, and set a good example.

6 Months Braces Article
People who have an imperfect bite or misaligned teeth can have their teeth straightened using several temporary devices. Depending on the type of problem their teeth have, be it a crooked bite, wide gaps or awry teeth, the orthodentist will evaluate a patient's situation and recommend what kind of removable device a set of teeth may need.
One of these useful temporary devices are braces. Braces have been used for decades to solve a host of dental problems, such as crooked teeth, misaligned upper or lower jaws, and even for the treatment of temporomandibular joint conditions, or TMJ. There are a number of people who grow up with a set of teeth that weren't able to develop properly or evenly, upper and lower jaws of dissimilar sizes, and pressure caused by TMJ. With braces, teeth can be aligned to their proper positions, jaws straightened, and beautiful smiles improved.
In the recent years, more and more
kinds of braces have become available to a more discerning public. These have included the standard metal braces with metal wires and brackets, ceramic braces with brackets manufactured from ceramic material, and clear braces custom-designed to be nearly invisible within the mouth. The latter are popular with adults and also go by the name Invisalign.
Another type of braces have hit the market lately. This latest model does away with the lengthy period of time, usually two to four years, that a person needs to wear them on their teeth. People who first encounter the 6 month braces usually react with suspicion and disbelief. How can the long and uncomfortable period necessary to achieve the perfect smile be shortened to a mere 6 months?
Despite speculative responses and skepticism, orthodontists have been quick to defend these new braces. The 6 month braces are installed using the latest techniques and up-to-the-minute technology geared at aligning teeth quickly but in a very safe manner. While they are not to be considered substitutes for comprehensive and thorough orthodontic treatment, people who are in a hurry to get that perfect smile can do so with the 6 month braces.
One of the components used in the 6 month braces are special Nickel Titanium wires. While adults and teenagers alike may worry that the 6 month braces may appear as incongruously as a mouthful of metal, they needn't be overly concerned. The 6 month braces normally come with brackets the same color as teeth. They will hardly be apparent to anyone at all unless actually people look close enough, that a set of teeth are bound in 6 month braces.
Traditional braces usually require the wearer to use clear hard plastic trays to align the teeth. Because the 6 month braces makes use of brackets and wires that are almost invisible, wearers don't need to go through difficult procedures, like taking out clear hard plastic trays before having a meal. And these braces only have to be worn for six months!
Using light force to align teeth gently, the 6 month braces may cause temporary discomfort, such as tightness, which can be eased by over-the-counter pain relievers. Because they use only minimal force and are in place for only half a year, the 6 month braces do not damage teeth or gums in any way. They also cost considerably less than traditional braces, which can normally set the wearer back over $5,000 or more.

Tongue retaining appliances and mandibular repositioning appliances are the two most widely used sleep apnea dental appliance. You are going to have the basic idea of how they work because their names are descriptive. How a tongue retaining appliance works is a retainer holds the tongue in a forward position, which prevents the back of the tongue from collapsing during sleep. The next device places the lower jaw in a protruded position to maintain the airway open at all time. Success rate in treating sleep apnea patients with both of these oral appliances have been promising.
How To Identify the Right Dentist
Don't just simply go to any dentist, the one that you are going to choose must have specific knowledge in this area. Remember that getting a right sleep apnea dental appliance is so important. Make sure your nasal passages and airways will be thoroughly examined with a diagnostic tool that uses sound waves. Only then the dentist will have the whole picture and consequently the sleep apnea dental appliance can be correctly fitted.

About Sleep Apnea
Given the fact that obstructive sleep apnea can have devastating health consequences, various solutions have been looked for in the attempt to improve the condition. Thus, companies specialized in oral appliances have come up with a device that can limit the number of episodes of breathing cessation during sleep. The effectiveness of the therapy using the sleep apnea dental appliance has been remarkable as severe conditions were prevented from developing. Less hypertension and lower risks of stroke and heart disease: these are actually the expected results after using the sleep apnea dental appliance. Though most experts recommend such devices for the treatment of the mild and moderate sleep apnea cases, successes have been reputed in severe conditions as well.
A sleep apnea dental appliance is a special mouthpiece designed by the dentist to match the structure of both teeth and jaws; its main function is that of preventing the collapse of the airways and the creation of an insufficient airflow towards the lungs. The sleep apnea dental appliance pulls the tongue and the jaw forward so that the airway remains open all the time, thus ensuring proper sleep and very few awakenings, if any at all. Before the use of such a device proper medical investigations need to be conducted both with the physician and the dentist.
There are several things you should expect from a sleep apnea dental appliance; first of all depending on its complexity and the materials used, the price can range from $50 to $2,000. The most important feature to be looked for in a sleep apnea dental appliance is the comfort; if you have a device custom-made for you, then you are sure quality materials will be the guarantee of a good night's rest. Though price can influence one's choice, it is good to remember that the cheaper the materials, the less comfortable the sleep apnea appliance.
One more thing you should expect from a good sleep apnea dental appliance is the mobility of the device. The problem with the products that you purchase over the counter is that they only have one size and, therefore they will not fit all. However, if the device is custom-made, then the adjustment of the sleep apnea dental appliance is also possible for the most appropriate jaw and tongue position. Certain appliances even allow for side to side and vertical motion, which is great in terms of comfort and the prevention of any jaw health problems.

The Benefits of Dental Implants
Cosmetic & Health and Benefits of Dental Implants
You may be wondering why more and more dentists are advocating dental implants over traditional bridgework and dentures. Perhaps you're baulking at the cost and wondering "What exactly will a dental implant do for me?"
Dental implants have several benefits you might not be aware of:
Dental Implants Improve your Confidence
With ordinary dentures your jawbone shrinks and the denture slips out of place, sliding and wobbling in the mouth and causing great discomfort and pain. Your facial muscles struggle to hold the dentures in place, resulting in muscle stress, more pain, and slurred or mumbled speech. The shrinking jawbone muscles give you a lopsided smile and aged face.
Because dental implants are anchored in the jaw itself, they don't move. Goodbye forever, gum irritation and muscle stress! You can smile, talk and sing naturally. Dental implants feel like your natural teeth.

Dental Implants Restore your Taste
With a dental implant you can chew and swallow foods without pain or discomfort. In contrast, a full upper denture covers your palette and reduces your sense of taste. Replacing your upper denture with dental implants allows you to once again taste and enjoy your favorite foods. To learn more about replacing your missing teeth with dental implants, contact

Sleep and Sleep Disorders
Sleep:
You spend 33% of your life sleeping! We just can't stay alive without it. The proper functioning of many of your body's functions, such as memory, immune system, and energy, are directly related to the quality of your sleep. Approximately 90 million people in North America have a sleep disorder. Are you included in this group?
While sleeping normally, the body temperature, blood pressure, breathing pace, and nearly all of your bodily functions slow down. In contrast to this, the brain maintains the same level of activity as when you are awake. A lot of research has shown that our minds are as busy when we sleep as they are when we are awake. During the eight hour sleep pattern, adults usually change from two completely different patterns: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and non-REM sleep.
REM Sleep: Nearly all dreams happen while in REM sleep.
Normal adults spend 20 to 25% of their sleep in the REM sleep cycle.
One of the most well known sleep problems is obstructive sleep apnea.
Is snoring dangerous?
Unless you think about the harm done to the relationship with your mate in bed then, of course not, snoring is basically not dangerous in and of itself. An experienced dentist can treat and eliminate it. Snoring, however, is known to indicate the possibility of obstructive sleep apnea, a potentially serious problem that can cause a lot of trouble. Dentist also have the answer for Sleep Apnea - Dental Appliance
Sleep Apnea in kids: Kids who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) will snore noisily and will also have brief time periods while they sleep when they stop breathing (known as apnea).

Sleep Apnea New Dental Treatment for Sleep Apnea
Do you snore a lot? Are you constantly tired? Do you desire to have a better night's sleep? Have you been identified as having Sleep Apnea?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea happens when the tissues in your throat collapses, thus limiting your air intake while you are sleeping. Someone who has been identified as being afflicted with sleep apnea could have many occurrences during the night. The individual seldom awakens and people usually don't remember not breathing, although this occurs frequently. The body is starved of essential oxygen; in essence, it is being suffocated repeatedly, night after night.
Since they continue to stop breathing off and on, people will usually start to have several problems because they have sleep apnea.

What is malocclusion San Diego
What is malocclusion?
A malocclusion is a misplacement or misalignment of teeth and/or incorrect relation between the teeth on the upper and lower jaw.
Most people have some degree of malocclusion, although with many people it isn't usually serious enough to require treatment. For those people who do have serious malocclusion orthodontic treatment is often required.
Why is it important to treat malocclusions? Research performed by the American Association of Orthodontists reveals that when left untreated, malocclusions can cause several different problems.
Braces are the most common way to remedy this problem.
Cramped teeth increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease because it is much more tricky to brush and floss them effectively. Protruding teeth are at higher risk for sustaining injuries that result in chips and cracks. Uneven tooth wear and less than optimal growth are often the result of cross bites. People with open bites can develop tongue-thrusting habits or speech problems.
In addition to making your smile more beautiful, orthodontics also makes you healthier.

About Braces Chula Vista, San Diego
Dr Espinosa D.D.S specialize in Braces and Implants at his San Diego dental office, in the Chula Vista area.
The amount of time you will need to wear traditional braces varies from person to person, although it will generally be between one and three years. After this, you will need to wear a retainer for a while to make sure your teeth don't move back to their previous positions.
Your orthodontist Dr Espinosa will design a set of braces that are comfortable for you.
If You or Anyone in Your Family Wears Braces: We advise using special toothbrushes, rinses, and anti-plaque tablets to keep the teeth and gums as clean as possible, to brush many times a day (usually after eating anything at all), to buy new toothbrushes regularly (braces wear the brushes down more than they normally would), and if it is impossible for you to brush, to rinse your mouth after eating.
Flossing is a good way to get rid of any pieces of food that get caught between your teeth and gums. A special 'threader' may be available from your dentist that can help you with flossing. It's best to remove any food particles lurking in your mouth so that tooth decay and gum infections don't develop. Six-month braces allow you to get your teeth straightened quickly and affordably!
If you have had crooked teeth for years, and would like to correct them in only six months, then six month braces are the answer. Get a great smile for a great price in only six months! The six month braces method will reposition your front teeth to give you a beautiful smile!
The Six Month Braces Technique can help you regardless of whether your teeth are too crowded, are overlapping, or have spaces between them -- and it only takes six months!
Ceramic Braces: A wonderful alternative to our metal braces, ceramic braces have a tint that is very similar to your natural tooth color, making them practically invisible! Almost invisible ceramic braces can be used for the six months braces treatment, and are the most popular choice for adults.
Is Orthodontic treatment right for you? Orthodontics can improve malocclusions, or bad bites, in addition to the aesthetics of a smile. Malocclusions are caused by misalignment of the jaw or teeth. A malocclusion can affect the way you chew food, smile, brush your teeth, or feel about yourself.
